11 GCS school bands earn Outstanding Performance Award
For the first time ever, eleven middle and high school bands in Greenville County have earned the top award from the South Carolina Band Directors Association. Hillcrest Middle School, Mauldin Middle School, Northwood Middle School, Riverside Middle School, Sterling School, Blue Ridge High School, JL Mann High School, Mauldin High School, Riverside High School, League Academy, and Greer High School, all received the Outstanding Performance Award for the 2021-2022 school year. That’s the highest number of top awards ever, beating the nine schools that earned it four years ago.
The Outstanding Performance Award is the highest achievement for band programs in South Carolina. To earn this award, students must have demonstrated a high level of proficiency in all areas of their program. Points were earned through their success in Marching Band Championships, Region and All-State Band Concert Performance Assessment, and Solo and Ensemble.
