photo graph of icy roads from a driver's perspectiveGreenville County Schools will be closed on Friday, January 19th and all activities will be cancelled.

On the advice of our ICE team, who spent the day driving hundreds of roads in all parts of the county, we have determined there are too many roadways that are still unsafe for travel.

With overnight temperatures expected to drop into the twenties wet or slushy roads will become icy and hazardous.  Even a two hour delay would require bus drivers (600 people) and thousands of other employees to leave their home between 5am and 6am and travel to work in the dark.

The National Weather Service is not predicting above freezing temperatures until midday.  A black ice advisory has been issued for ALL of Greenville County tomorrow morning.  This weather system is not just a problem for the northern part of the county, our teams found issues at dozens of schools south of Interstate 85 and along hundreds of bus routes.  One bad road can affect 5-10 bus routes.

All dangerous conditions are expected to be resolved over the weekend.  Weekend sports and activities will be on schedule unless otherwise notified.
