Greenville County Schools held their annual Middle School County Basketball Championships and at the end two first time winners emerged!

Blue Ridge Middle Girls BasketballBlue Ridge Middle Girls Basketball won their first ever county basketball championship by knocking off defending champion Woodmont Middle 34-26. The Tigers jumped out to an early 9-5 lead behind 7 points by Quadaija Langley in the 1st quarter.  Langley would finish with 11 points and 5 rebounds. Maggie Stout would seal the victory with 10 of her game high 16 points in the 4th quarter.  Maggie Poole added 7 rebounds. Coach Kathie Smith returned zero players from last seasons final four team, making the 2017 championship run all the more improbable.

Sevier Middle Boys BasketballSevier Middle Boys Basketball also claimed their first county title with a 54-39 win over Hughes Academy. In doing so the Falcons and Coach Jarvis Robinson completed a perfect, undefeated season Sevier trailed at the half, but a 17-0 run sparked by defense and transition baskets to open the 3rd period propelled the Falcons to victory.  Raquavius Hodge (14 pts) and Jamauri Donald (9 pts) each scored seven points during the 3rd quarter as part of that huge run.  Jacquarius Jones tied Hodge with 14 points while pulling down 13 rebounds.  Jabari Scott added 8 points and 12 rebounds.

Congratulations to Blue Ridge and Sevier on their 2017 County Championships!
