Riverside Speech and Debate Claims 5th State TitleCongratulations to the Riverside High School Speech and Debate Team. Captains Carol Lee and Gail Holland led the Warriors to their fifth consecutive state championship at the 2016 South Carolina Coaches’ Association State Tournament held at Riverside High School March 4th through 5th. Riverside was also named the 2016 AAAA State Champion.

Individual State Champions include Peter Botka in Novice Reading, Carol Bubanich in Varsity Lincoln Douglas Debate, Neil Gramopadhye and Nicole Paterson in Public Forum Debate, Michael Gallagher in both Expository Speaking and Original Oratory, Emma Simonis in Children’s Literature, Ceylin Ucok in Informative Speaking, and Ahva Zadeh in Declamation. Raghed Abdel Tawab was the Novice Champion of Impromptu Speaking; Audrey Dods, the Novice Champion of Congressional Debate; Rachel Harrington, the Novice Champion of both Children’s Literature and Humorous Interpretation; and Andrew Kim, the Novice Champion of Extemporaneous Speaking. Will Tapp was named the Best Presiding Officer in Congressional Debate.
