Performance Task Testing for Gifted and Talented Identification
Greenville County Schools will administer the Performance Task Test for identified students in grades 2 through 5 between Tuesday, February 16 and Thursday, March 3. The test is used to identify students who may qualify for the Gifted and Talented Program. Tests are sent away to be scored, and the district will receive data in May. Test results will be mailed to parents before the end of this school year.
The Performance Task Test consists of verbal and nonverbal tasks which will be administered on two separate days with each session lasting approximately 90 minutes. The Performance Tasks assess how students process and use new skills.
The College of William & Mary – Center for Gifted Education developed the Performance Tasks for the South Carolina Gifted and Talented Identification Program.
Preparing Your Child for Testing
- Help your child approach the testing in a relaxed, positive way.
- Explain that the purpose of taking the Performance Tasks is to learn new skills and use these skills on a task.
- Assure your child that there will be ample time to do well. Each child should listen to directions and focus on the task. There are multiple acceptable responses. All responses are considered.
- Emphasize that these tasks require no special preparation.
