GCS Elementary and Middle School Test Scores Significantly Outperform the State
Greenville County Schools’ test scores show elementary and middle schools significantly outperformed the state in all subject areas. High school test scores have not yet been released by the South Carolina Department of Education.
According to the latest assessment data for the 2022-23 school year, Greenville County elementary and middle schools outperformed the state in South Carolina College- and Career-Ready Assessments (SC READY) for English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics, which are administered in grades 3-8. Greenville County elementary and middle schools also outperformed the state in South Carolina Palmetto Assessment of State Standards (SCPASS) for Science, which are administered in grades 4 and 6.
Elementary Schools:
- GCS elementary schools outperformed the state in every grade level in ELA, Math and Science for the 2022-23 school year.
- 96% of GCS elementary schools maintained or increased ELA, Math and/or Science scores from 2021-22 to 2022-23 school year.
- 84% of GCS elementary schools met or exceeded pre-pandemic (2018-19) scores in ELA, Math and/or Science scores.
Middle Schools:
- GCS middle schools outperformed the state in every grade level in ELA, Math and Science for the 2022-23 school year.
- 95% of GCS middle schools maintained or increased ELA, Math and/or Science scores from 2021-22 to 2022-23 school year.
- 100% of GCS middle schools met or exceeded pre-pandemic (2018-19) scores in ELA, Math and/or Science.
“This year’s SC READY and SCPASS test scores demonstrate the intentional, focused work by our school and district faculty members who have supported our students and continue to strive for ongoing improvement,” said Dr. W.
