GCS Celebrates Significant Academic Gains with Superintendent’s Academic Achievement Awards
At the first-ever Superintendent’s Academic Achievement Awards celebration, Greenville County Schools recognized significant academic growth and performance from the 2021-22 school year and tremendous progress in returning to pre-pandemic achievement levels.
Pre-Pandemic Achievement Levels
Greenville County Schools is fast-approaching pre-pandemic achievement levels and outpaced the state’s overall progress in returning to pre-pandemic levels in English Language Arts (ELA), Math and Science. These results reflect state testing that occurred during the pandemic at the end of the 2021-22 school year.
Elementary Schools:
- 61% Met or Exceeded Pre-pandemic Performance in ELA
- 24% Met or Exceeded Pre-pandemic Performance in Math
- 31% Met or Exceeded Pre-pandemic Performance in Science
Middle Schools:
- 50% Met or Exceeded Pre-pandemic Performance in ELA
- 18% Met or Exceeded Pre-pandemic Performance in Math
- 57% Met or Exceeded Pre-pandemic Performance in Science
High Schools*:
- 80% Met or Exceeded Pre-pandemic Performance in Algebra 1
- 7% Met or Exceeded Pre-pandemic Performance in Biology
*South Carolina tested high schools on English 1 pre-pandemic but English 2 post-pandemic so there is no pre-pandemic comparison data for high school English.

Greenville County Schools also celebrated tremendous positive academic growth from spring 2021 to spring 2022 in ELA, Math and Science.

The awards were celebrated a day after the South Carolina Department of Education released the 2021-2022 test scores for South Carolina College- and Career-Ready Assessments (SC READY) for English Language Arts and Mathematics along with South Carolina Palmetto Assessment of State Standards (SCPASS) for Science.
