Greenville County Schools has released the 2022-23 student calendar. Students will start the new school year on Monday, August 15, 2022. The last day of school will be Friday, June 2, 2023. In accordance with state law, the calendar includes 180 scheduled instructional days and ten professional development/teacher workdays. Under existing state law, students may not start school prior to the third Monday in August.

Because Greenville County Schools is an approved eLearning district, GCS will automatically operate on Attendance Plan 0 (eLearning) if school buildings are closed on a regular attendance day.

The last day of school before Winter Break will be Friday, December 16 and the first day back will be Tuesday, January 3. Spring Break is slated for March 20-24, 2023. The day before Winter Break (December 16) and the last two days of school (June 1-2) will be half-days for students.

Other holidays include Labor Day (September 5), Election Day (November 8), Thanksgiving Break (November 23-25), Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (January 16), Presidents’ Day (February 20), Memorial Day (May 29). The Superintendent determines the school calendar after receiving recommendations from the Calendar Committee, which receives input from parent groups and school faculties. The recommendations are also based on State requirements and factors such as required testing dates set by the State Department of Education. The Calendar Committee is comprised of parents, teachers, principals, and staff.
