Registration for 2022-23 GCS Virtual Program Opens November 15
Beginning Monday, November 15, Greenville County students will have the opportunity to enroll in the full-time Virtual Program for the 2022-23 school year. Registration opens at 8:00 AM on Monday, November 15 and will continue through 5:00 PM on Wednesday, December 1. To register, students must be enrolled in Greenville County Schools and parents must have a BackPack account.
All current Virtual Program students will need to reapply for next year or the student will be reassigned to the student’s homebased school.
NOTE: The Virtual Program will not be offered for Specialized/Magnet programs such as Charles Townes Center, Language Immersion and preschool programs or the most intensive special education services, which is typically referred to as self-contained programming.
The first registration window is for those who are certain they want students to participate in the Virtual Program next fall. The program will be staffed based on this early signup. Greenville County Schools will reopen the window in April 2022 to create a waitlist. Students on the waitlist will be scheduled based on availability of space in the Virtual Program.
We will email notifications of acceptance and Virtual Program contracts by February 9, 2022. Students in the Virtual Program will be scheduled based on grade level and academic record. GCS cannot guarantee placement with other students or teachers from the home-based school. Middle and high school parents will be contacted by the Virtual Program guidance counselors to schedule an Individual Graduation Plan (IGP) conference.
Students will be expected to participate daily in live sessions at scheduled times. Those who fail to do so will be marked absent and are subject to truancy consequences. Exceptions are based on extenuating circumstances and must be pre-approved in advance by the virtual administrator.
Students accepted into the virtual program for the 2022-2023 school year will not be eligible for magnet academies or change in assignment choice. If a student is approved for a magnet or choice slot after being accepted in the virtual program, parents must state their intent by the deadline or forfeit their choice/magnet slot.
Note*** During the 2022-23 Virtual Program application window of November 15 through December 1, 2021, parents will not be able to apply for the current school year using Parent Backpack. Parents must contact the student’s current school administration to let them know of this request to transfer to the Virtual Program. The home school administrator will contact GCS Virtual to determine if the parent’s request can be approved. After Dec. 2, parents will be able to apply to the Virtual Program through Parent Backpack for the current year.
