The Most Wonderful Time of the Year!
Sevier Middle School has partnered with Paris Elementary for several years to immerse students in a service learning project. The service learning enrichment began with a group of eighth graders, and last year sixth graders became involved. The students take one class period for service learning training. Next, they visit Paris Elementary and read with kindergarten students. That week the 5Ks are presented with a book. The final week, all the buddies surround the Christmas tree in Paris Elementary for reading, hot chocolate, and a candy cane. We conclude with each big buddy presenting the children with a holiday-themed book.
Some of the students said, "We learn about caring for others and helping," and "We learned how to help people with a kind heart and feel good about it." This is certainly a highlight of the year for both Sevier and Paris and there is no better way to celebrate the holidays than to give of ourselves!
