Dr. Susan Stevens

Dr. Susan Stevens’ professional journey in the field of education began in 2006 when, transitioning from a corporate career as a research scientist, she embarked on a new path as an art teacher at Fountain Inn Elementary School. Her first administrative appointment was as Assistant Administrator at Alexander Elementary School in 2012. The following year, she was promoted to Assistant Principal at Greenview Child Development Center, and the year after that, to Principal of the six Child Development Centers, a position she held with distinction for three years. In 2017, she became Principal of A.J. Whittenberg Elementary School of Engineering. During her tenure at AJW, she spearheaded a transformation of the school from an ATSI state-designated institution to a National Blue Ribbon School within a remarkable span of just three years. This period was marked by significant academic advancement, including a 13% increase in English Language Arts, an 8% rise in mathematics, and a 22% improvement in science scores. In 2020, Dr. Stevens joined the District’s Academics Department as Director of Early Intervention and Elementary Student Support, continuing her commitment to fostering educational excellence and student success. Her professional experience and outstanding leadership skills uniquely qualify her for her new role as successor to Brenda Byrd as one of the Assistant Superintendents for School Leadership for Elementary Schools. Dr. Stevens holds a B.S. in Biology and Visual Arts from Moravian College, an M.Ed. from Southern Wesleyan University, and both an Ed.S. in Educational Leadership and Supervision and an Ed.D. in Educational Administration from South Carolina State University.
