Joe Foster

As Principal of Woodmont High School since 2018, Mr. Foster led the school to significant academic gains and developed a culture of achievement, with results including moving the school from the 11th-highest graduation rate in the District when he arrived to the highest in the District for the past three consecutive years; School Report Card Ratings of Excellent in 2022 and 2023, the highest overall growth in student achievement of GCS high schools in 2022; and recognition as a Palmetto’s Finest high school in 2023. Prior to beginning his career in public education, Mr. Foster served his nation and community with six years in the United States Army and seven years as a police officer in Miami and Greenville. In 2007, he transitioned to teaching law enforcement and criminal justice at Golden Strip Career Center, where he was appointed Assistant Director in 2011, and also coached wrestling at Travelers Rest and Mauldin High Schools. He served as Assistant Principal of Wade Hampton High School from 2013-2018 before being promoted to his current position as Principal at Woodmont High. Mr. Foster holds a B.A. in International Relations from Florida International University and an M.A. in Education with a concentration in School Leadership from Furman University. He expects to receive his Ed.S. from Furman in May 2024.
