Frontline Cybersecurity Incident Notification
What Happened?
Greenville County Schools was notified by Frontline Education, an education software company, that they experienced a cybersecurity incident affecting districts across South Carolina and the nation. For Greenville County Schools, the only impacted system is Frontline School Health Management, software used for nursing services documentation and Medicaid billing. This involved only an external system, and the District’s internal systems were not breached.
What Data Was Affected?
Information provided by Frontline indicates personally identifiable information, including Medicaid billing numbers, names, student I.D. numbers, and/or birthdates, was compromised. To the District’s knowledge, no other sensitive information was compromised, and Frontline is not aware of any misuse of the data as a result of this incident at this time.

More from Greenville County Schools
Greenville County Schools has employees and systems whose sole purpose is to protect student data. Doing so includes carefully screening and vetting the vendors with whom we enter into data sharing agreements. Frontline Education is a national company with many layers of data security in place. Unfortunately, modern data systems are constantly under attack, and sometimes those attacks are successful. That is why Greenville County Schools no longer collects Social Security numbers from our students or uses even a portion of those numbers in student ID numbers.
Though this data breach is considered very low risk, we encourage you to take advantage of the complimentary credit monitoring provided by Frontline. This incident reminds us that confidential data is stored in computer systems worldwide, and those systems are constantly subject to attacks. As an additional resource, the Federal Trade Commission has a website with suggested actions after a data loss:
