Blue Ridge Middle Plant Engineer Named Finalist for National Custodian of the Year
Blue Ridge Middle School Plant Engineer Eddie Straub received an exciting surprise when Cintas Corporation presented him with a $1,000 check. Straub is one of nine finalists in the 2021 Cintas Corporation Custodian of the Year Program. Straub was listed among other finalists from Colorado, Illinois, Ohio, and Pennsylvania, to name a few.
Principal Karen Bullard is extremely proud of Straub’s dedication to Blue Ridge Middle. “People who know Eddie understand why this is a big deal for him,” she explained. “It’s more than just a job. He loves the students, he loves the staff, and he takes pride in his work. When Eddie was nominated for Custodian of the Year, our community came together – parents, teachers, and students. We had one staff member who worked with his elderly parents so they could cast a vote. We really appreciate the support of our Blue Ridge community.”
Straub added, “Working here is awesome. I’ve been here 10-plus years. I have a wonderful staff. It’s a pleasure to come into work to help others and to keep our school safe and secure for the students. Knowing that people need me is what gets me up every morning.”
“With over 2,000 deserving nominations, it was difficult choosing only 10 finalists,” said Christiny Betsch, Marketing Manager, Cintas. “This contest shows us that custodians are much more than cleaners. They’re true role models who go above and beyond to have a positive impact on students, faculty, teachers, and communities across the U.S.”
