Update 6:30 am GCS is fully operational today.  We are rerouting buses to avoid road closures as needed. At this time there are no schools without power. Schools will work with families whose house or commute is affected by the storm. Families are urged to use caution and contact their school administrator with questions or concerns.

Update 9:30 pm - There is no storm damage at any Greenville County School that would interfere with normal operations tomorrow.

Woodmont High School did receive some damage from the storm. Several windows on the back side of the school near the gym were broken.  They have been temporarily repaired, but out of an abundance of caution the Woodmont gym will be closed until further inspection can be conducted in daylight. There was also significant damage to two greenhouses on school property and the tennis courts and baseball field.
We are continuing to monitor road conditions and will route buses around any areas that remain closed tomorrow morning.

Update 6:00 pm - A reminder that many GCS buses will be delayed tonight because routes were stopped during the tornado warning.

Additionally, some of our bus drivers are reporting road closures and unsafe road conditions in the Simpsonville/Five Forks/Southern Greenville County area.  Parents will be contacted about the location of their child’s bus if the bus is forced to stop.  Parents will be given the option to pick up their child from the parked bus.  Students who are unable to reach their parents and have not been picked up will be transported to Bryson Middle School.  Bryson will serve as a staging area where students will be supervised until their parent arrives.

Update 5:35 pm - All schools located south of Interstate 85 have been cleared to begin dismissal. Buses have been authorized to leave their sheltered area and resume their routes.

4:50 pm - All Greenville County Schools located south of Interstate 85 in the tornado warning zone are sheltering in place. Any students, employees, or parents who are on school property for after school programs or athletic practices are sheltered.  Parents are encouraged to stay safe at home or work and not leave to pick up their children.  Any buses that are on the currently on the road south of 85 are seeking shelter at the nearest school or building.
