A Message from Dr. Reavis

Oakview has been incredibly blessed with a supportive parent and community network. Our PTA logs over 40,000 hours of volunteer work annually, contributing to the success of many school projects. We deeply appreciate the continued support from parents, families, and the wider community.  One NEW support Oakview has created for parents is Instructional Supports, a unit by unit resource for math and reading with videos and activities parents can use at home with their children.

Remember, you don’t have to volunteer inside the school to make a big difference! Research shows that students with strong home support systems are more successful academically, have better attendance, and develop stronger social skills. Here are a few ways you can support your child at home:

  • Read Aloud – Even if your child can read independently, continue reading aloud to model fluency.
  • Mental Math on the Go – Turn car rides into a math game. Look for numbers on signs, and practice addition, subtraction, or multiplication.  Look for geometric shapes or lines that intersect or are parallel to each other.
  • Money Skills – While shopping, ask your child to round prices to the nearest dollar, estimate the cost, or calculate how much more is needed to reach a whole number.
  • Cooking Together – Follow recipes, and practice math by doubling or halving ingredients.  Follow multi-step directions.  Talk about solutions vs. mixtures.
  • Letter Writing – Write a note for your child to read and respond to, incorporating weekly spelling words or stems for extra practice!  Talk about the parts of a letter.

For the children,
Dr. Phillip Reavis

School Choice

Change in Assignment School Choice Lottery Window Open Nov 21 - Dec 6

Greenville County Schools’ Change in Assignment (CIA) School Choice Lottery Window will be available from November 21 through December 6, 2024 where parents can submit a choice request form for up to three schools for their child. Choice request forms are available at every school (except magnet schools) and must be completed and submitted at the first choice school. This form is not available online. Order of receipt of CIA form at schools during the CIA Lottery Window does not affect selection.

All parents/guardians interested in applying for a possible CIA school choice slot at a school other than their assigned school based on their resident address should apply during the Change in Assignment Choice Lottery Window. Parents of 2025-26 kindergarten students should apply during the CIA Lottery Window (do not wait until kindergarten registration). This includes parents who already have a sibling at the school.

A lottery will be conducted and results will be posted no later than February 12, 2025 on the GCS website, reflecting the numerical order of applicants. Results provide the order of applicants by grade for each school only and do not reflect assignment or approval. This list is static and does not reflect waitlist number(s) after initial choice allocations. Parents can access lottery numerical order results by using their CIA choice form number and it is suggested parents take a picture of the form to avoid misplacement of the CIA number. Later, available space by grade level will determine the choice assignments for each school.

Change in Assignment Choice notification letters will be mailed to parents/guardians by March 31, 2025, advising if the student received a slot at a requested school or if placed on a waitlist. Waitlist numbers will be provided.

This process does not include GCS’s magnet schools. Please directly contact the magnet school of interest.

You can learn more about the School Choice process on the district website.
