The partnership between Greenbrier’s PTA, SIC, and the community is held in high regard. Through gifts of time and donations, our business partners enable us to host family-friendly events throughout the year and have included Family Fun Nights, where families come together for healthy dinners and engage in fun activities that focus on positive connections.
PTA hosts game nights, student performances, spring carnival, and the annual talent show. SIC sponsors Parent University sessions on relevant parenting topics, including bullying, Internet safety, and positive discipline. Parent and community volunteers assist in the classroom with projects, chaperoning field trips, and reading to students. Volunteers also assist with book fairs and school clubs and have helped to organize our Leveled Literacy Library. Outreach projects touch the entire community.
We encourage face-to-face communication as well as participation in school activities, such as PTA Nights or simply helping their children with homework. Written communication is provided in various formats including, Greenbrier’s Report to Community, outlining school-wide goals and progress. Teachers post their grade level newsletters on their websites. Counselors hold bullying workshops with local theater companies and speak to local college students about the importance of creating a caring community.
