The biggest event for us this week was Special Olympics, held at Furman University on Wednesday. Our kids did great, brought home lots of medals, and enjoyed themselves greatly. Thanks to Linda Hill, Cindy Brown and all the others who helped to coordinate this event and to make it such an enjoyable experience for so many folks.

We have the totals in from our own Spirit Week which concluded last Friday. Our students raised over $1,000 which will be divided between Camp Spearhead and our own PTA’s “Run, Walk and Roll”. We think this was a great opportunity for our students to support others in the community.

With the warm weather, we have had classes going out to parks, shopping, going to the zoo and to restaurants, and of course, going bowling. Senator Mike Fair toured the main campus here on Monday and then went over to Hollis where he observed tests being administered to students here. Katherine Gantt and Samantha Stansell’s classes enjoyed a skyping field trip with a fire department on Thursday, and IEP meetings continued. On Sunday of this weekend, we have a group from Washington Center going to the state Knights of Columbus meeting in Spartanburg to receive a donation they are providing to enable us to purchase additional movement equipment for our students. Lisa Porter will be receiving the check on behalf of Washington Center.

Next Wednesday will be Secretary’s Day, and interim progress reports will go home on Friday. Also on Friday, volunteers from St. Joseph’s School will be on campus helping teachers get ready for Craft Day which will be held on May 6. The whole first week in May will be Teacher Appreciation Week, so we have definitely arrived at the busiest time of the year.

Hope everyone will have a great weekend.
