This seems to be a very busy time of year for us in that we had a site visit from Greenville Women Giving on Tuesday, and on Wednesday we were notified that we have been chosen to make a presentation at the end of February at Eastside High School related to their sprit week beneficiaries.  Both of these have to do with funds we have requested for the nature trail we hope to build on the property behind the school.

Also this week, a number of new Promethean Board projectors were installed, interim progress reports went home; and, today we had our monthly fire drill as well as a visit from Wade Hampton High School teacher cadets.  We have a new staff member who began on Tuesday, Ingrid Sledge-Hines.  Ms. Sledge-Hines will be working in Jean Ashmore’s room, so if you get a chance, be sure to welcome her to Washington Center.  Additionally, we have a new pet in our environmental science room, an anole named Vinny.

This week some classes went bowling, and others went shopping at Walmart, Dollar Tree, and Whole foods.  Still other groups went to Greenridge Shopping Center and Haywood Mall; and/or ate out at Tommy’s Ham House.  One class visited retired residents at Shepard’s Care.

Tomorrow the TreesGreenville people are coming to plant 25 trees on campus, and we are told that a few of those trees have been purchased with funds in a Living Legacy fund established to honor Mary Andrews who was a longtime employee of Washington Center.  If you wish to volunteer to help with planting tomorrow, sign up on the website: http://www.treesgreenville.org/volunteer/ or just come between 9 and 12.

 Next Friday we are looking forward to our annual Freedom Walk, commemorating Black History Week, and also, Linda Hill asked that I mention to you that we have begun our annual IEP updates, so if you have not already heard from your child's teacher, you should be contacted soon to set up a meeting time.

Other important dates to mark on your calendar include:

The first week of March when we will celebrate Dr. Seuss, culminating with a parade of Seuss characters on Friday coming over from Sara Collins;

March 15 we will be going to Wade Hampton High School to see their performance of the Ugly Duckling;

Spring Break will be from March 28-April 2;

The PTA’s Walk, Roll and 5Krun will be on April 9.

I think that is it for us for today.  Have a great weekend.
