Plain Elementary School received national recognition on NBC's Today Show in March 2013 for initiating a community resource officer satellite office in the school. This provided a Simpsonville police officer on campus at no cost to the district or community.
Plain Elementary received the Red Carpet Schools Award. "Red Carpet Schools," is an award presented by the State Department of Education that recognizes schools with outstanding family-friendly environments.
The Palmetto Gold and Palmetto Silver Awards Program was created by the South Carolina General Assembly to recognize schools that attained high levels of absolute performance, high rates of growth, and substantial progress in closing achievement gaps between groups of students. SC/NSPRAS Rewards for Excellence program recognizes outstanding communications and public relations efforts by schools, school districts and education agencies and associations.
