Earlier this week, GCS released the proposed student assignment plan for the new Reedy Laurel Elementary School, opening in August 2025. This plan includes changes in student assignments for some Mauldin Elementary students over the next few years. Families of current GCS students directly impacted received personalized communication this week by email, letter, and voicemail. The administration’s recommendation includes an allowance to keep siblings together, and students in K5 through 2nd grade who are reassigned to a new school will be provided permission to attend their older siblings’ school while the older sibling is still enrolled there.
The new Reedy Laurel Elementary is going to be a fantastic opportunity for our community.

Parents and Guardians,
In accordance with the South Carolina Compulsory School Attendance law, the School District of Greenville County has uniform rules to ensure that students attend school regularly. Each day that students are not in school, they miss hours of valuable instruction and opportunities for learning that they will not have again. Students are counted present only when they are actually in school, on homebound instruction, or are present at an activity authorized by the school principal. A student is considered in attendance when present for at least three (3) hours of a school day.
Students must present a written excuse, signed by a parent/legal guardian or a medical professional, for all absences within 3 days of the student’s return to school. The written excuse should include the reason for and the date of absence. Without a valid written excuse, the absence will be recorded as unlawful. Absences in excess of 10 days will not be considered excused with a parent/guardian note unless accompanied by official medical documentation or approved by the principal.
Attendance information is available in the student handbook and on the Greenville County Schools website.
Parents can now enroll and upload documents online by creating a Parent Backpack account. Please visit the Greenville County Schools Enrollment website to learn more and start the enrollment process.
