Clubs and Activities

Our school has a wide variety of clubs and activities to appeal to all interests…from sports, music, reading, crafts, international culture to robotics! There is something for everyone!

Parents, if you would like to be involved in any way, big or small, many opportunities exist at GMA. Make sure PTA has your email address so we can keep you informed with the latest information on activities and volunteer needs. We hope you have a great year and…GO RAMS!

Best Buddies Best Buddies is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, leadership development, and inclusivity for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Here at GMA, we will match willing participants to a buddy and ask that they commit to one year with regular chapter engagement.

Beta Club  The Junior Beta Club is an organization that is designed to promote the ideals of academic achievement, character, leadership, and service among students. Members meet throughout the year at club meetings and community service projects. School Leaders and achievers are recognized throughout the year. Students who have received all As are invited to join the club beginning the second semester of 6th grade. A minimal fee is required for new members. An invitation is extended for 7th and 8th grade students to run for Beta Club office.

Book Club  Book Club meets before school on Wednesdays, at 7:45 AM, for breakfast and to discuss student-selected literature in the library. Limited to 30 students. Sign up in media center.

Book Fair  Our annual Scholastic Book Fair is held for one week in the media center. Volunteers will be needed daily and snack donations for the teacher preview are greatly appreciated.

Career Day  School Counselors facilitate a Career Day Fair in March. The Career Fair showcases about 30 parents and business partners who share their career with each grade level. The PTA provides breakfast for the presenters before the event.

Frosty Friday  Each Friday the school store is open to sell ice cream to the students during their lunch hour. The cost is $1. Parent volunteers are needed to “work the ice cream shop”. Commitment time is generally for 1.5 hours during lunch hour. Shifts run from 10:30 until noon or noon until 1:30. It’s a great way to see your student and their friends!

Gateway to Technology  Gateway to Technology are classes where students apply the design process to solve problems and to understand the influence of creativity and innovation in their lives. They work in teams to design toys and braces for children with Cerebral Palsy, while capturing ideas and research in their engineering notebooks.

Incentives for Good Grades  At the end of the first 3 quarters, students who have all A’s and B’s are rewarded by the PTA. The students with all A’s receive a pizza lunch during their scheduled lunch. Parent volunteers are needed to help hand out lunch.

Intramural Sports  Open to all students after school. Each grade level meets one day a week for 30 minutes (3:20p-3:55 PM) and participates in a variety of sports and games. Students must have transportation home.  Mondays: 6th grade; Tuesdays: 7th grade; Wednesdays: 8th grade

NJHS (National Junior Honor Society)  The cornerstones for membership in the society are scholarship, leadership, service and citizenship. Students are considered for membership at the end of their 7th grade year. Students must have all A’s and B’s in all subjects to be considered. Students will be notified if they meet the academic criteria and will be given a Student Activity Form to complete. Once membership status has been obtained, students become active members as 8th graders. NJHS meets 3 to 4 times per year at 7:45 AM in the Media Center. Meetings will be announced during morning and afternoon announcements. NJHS sponsors two main projects: Angel Tree Project during the holiday season and Stop Hunger Now during the spring. Peer Mentor  Peer mentoring is an excellent opportunity for students who have a heart for assisting students with special needs. Peer mentors assist special needs students with their schoolwork, interact and play games with them, and can eat lunch with the students to help them learn social and conversational skills. Requirements for being a good peer mentor are: a willingness to be a friend to someone who does not have a friend, a good attitude and behavior during the school day, and patience.

Performing Arts Programs

Band is offered, beginning in the 6th grade, to all students. No experience is required. Students learn one of the following: brass, woodwind, or percussion, and will participate in competitions, trips, and concerts throughout the year.

Chorus is offered, beginning in the 6th grade, to all students. No previous experience is required. Students participate in concerts and performances throughout the year.

Strings is offered, beginning in the 6th grade, to all students. No previous experience is required. Students learn one of the four instruments – violin, viola, cello, or bass and will participate in competitions, trips, and concerts throughout the year. (

RAMbassadors  The RAMbassadors at Greenville Middle are a group of students selected for their leadership, kindness, and dependability. They put action behind these character traits every day to make a positive difference in our school. These students reach out to others who may be new or who may need a friend. They have the courage to "step out" of their social group to help others when needed. These students receive a nomination from their classroom teachers and are extended an invitation by our school administration. Students assist with PTA and Magnet Open House events, serving as tour guides and role model student representatives.

Spirit Week/Red Ribbon Week  This exciting week, sponsored by the PTA, is held the last week of October. Each day, a variety of games are held on stage in the cafeteria during lunch period for all grades. The cost to play the games is $1, and prizes are awarded. We have music playing, and even faculty and staff get involved in the fun! Each day of the week has a theme (themes in the past have included 50’s day, Wacky Tacky day, etc..) where students are encouraged to show their spirit by dressing up. Parent volunteers are needed to help staff the games, judge the costumes, and send in prizes/gift cards/ etc.

Teen Read Week Guest speakers and special activities are scheduled each October to encourage students to read for pleasure. Activities are scheduled through student literature classes.

Yearbook is an academic class for 8th graders. Interested students submit applications to participate in the spring, and the staff is selected from those applications. This activity counts as an elective class.
