June 2023 Letter from the President

We would like to also thank the following: April Abercrombie, Miranda Roth, Jackie Greiner-Osborne, Morgan Phillips and Frances Ramey for serving on our board and helping the PTSA this school year without each of you none of this would have been possible.

Along with the vote on VP and secretary, the general membership voted to pass our proposed budget for the 2023-24 school year. I appreciate the support of our PTSA membership our job as executive board would not be possible and would not run smoothly without our members. You are the reason we can provide things for our students and staff.

This past school year we were able to provide training and continuing education for our teachers and administration. We purchased a washer and dryer for our CATE classroom to help them learn how to take care of themselves and their families. We bought class sets of reading literature for the 7th grade English departments. The 6th grade social studies department purchased scholastic materials to help educate and engage the 6th graders on a unit on the holocaust. In October we hosted a community night and provided an opportunity for our students and staff to come together while we enjoyed our related arts departments. We helped with education and fun incentives during Red Ribbon week. We were able to sponsor students each school year who may not be able to participate in school activities for reasons out of their control. We have slowly been working on beautification of the school grounds by upgrading fencing and adding some new shrubs and flowerpots at our entrance. We provided hats, spirit wear and panther draw string bags to hand out as incentives for rising 6th graders from several of our feeder elementary schools. We were able to spoil our staff with several onsite luncheons throughout the year. We provided hot chocolate, candy canes, ice cream, snow cones, candy, drinks, popcorn and trial mix for 1st, 2nd and 3rd - 9week honor roll students. Along with administration we helped provide snacks, sweet treats, and Nomadik Few snow cones for testing incentives. We have been able to donate snacks on several occasion to our EDP afterschool program. And as the school year closes out we will treat the entire school to TCBY, help furnish items for all grades for adventure day and celebrate our 8th graders with the 8th grade dance. All of this was made possible by each one of you.

As we close out this school year, we want to thank you for joining PTSA and we look forward to working with you next year on making Ralph Chandler Middle School the best place for our students, staff and families.

Have a great summer

Amy Haymes

School Visitor and Volunteer Guidelines-

Greenville County Schools (GCS), in an effort to ensure the safety of all of our students, is implementing additional security checks for school volunteers.   Effective immediately, all volunteers must submit an application to the school and receive clearance from the district before interacting with children in the school or chaperoning any school field trip.  Volunteers are now identified by two different categories:  Level I or Level II.  Please review the required procedure by clicking HERE.

Advocating for Your Child's Success - Video HERE

GCS has partnered with District 1 PTA to produce a video outlining how parents can appropriately advocate for their children. The video stresses following proper channels of communications beginning with the teacher or other appropriate employee, working with teachers and other staff, staying informed through Parent Portal and teacher meetings, informing principals of concerns, etc.  You can view the video by clicking the link above.
