GCS students in grades 3 through 8 outperformed their state counterparts on the SC READY (South Carolina College- and Career-Ready Assessments). SC READY tests in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics. Four performance levels are awarded: Exceeds Expectations, Meets Expectations, Approaches Expectations, and Does Not Meet Expectation. Results will be used for state and federal accountability purposes.

The percentage of GCS students scoring Meets Expectations and Exceeds Expectations was higher than the percentage of SC students scoring Meets Expectations and Exceeds Expectations in both areas at all grade levels.

Highlights for 2017-18 Testing

  • Thirty-six elementary schools experienced growth in the percent of students scoring Meets or Exceeds Expectations in English Language Arts. Stone Elementary Academy saw a 12 percentage point increase, and Alexander Elementary recorded an increase of 10 percentage points.
  • Eleven middle schools increased their performance in English Language Arts, with Northwood leading the way with an eight percentage point increase.
  • Forty-three elementary schools experienced growth in Math, including 15 that saw double-digit growth. The highest increase (18 percentage points) was achieved at Chandler Creek Elementary. 
  • Thirteen middle schools saw increases in the percentage of students improving their Math scores. Both Northwood and Hillcrest Middle Schools saw the highest increase of eight percentage points.
