GCS Celebrates Academic Achievements in Key Performance Areas

Greenville County Schools continued to celebrate overall achievement and growth with the Superintendent’s Academic Achievement Awards at the November principals’ meeting. Schools were recognized for Graduation Rate, College and Career Readiness, Work-Based Learning, Industry Certifications and CTE (Career & Technical Education) Completers. Awards were given related to growth and performance of Multilingual Learners and Students with Disabilities as their performance contributes to overall student achievement and success. Achievements celebrated align with the District’s Graduation Plus initiative which focuses on students graduating with a high school diploma plus college credit and/or industry certifications, ensuring that they are college- and career-ready. Superintendent's Report
Dr. Royster welcomed student performers from the Blue Ridge High School Concert Choir who performed holiday songs, led by Director Jonathan Reid. 

In addition to recognizing this month's personnel recommendations (listed above), the Superintendent highlighted several new appointments of district leadership team members:

  • Dr. Charlotte McDavid, Assistant Superintendent for Transformation
  • Jason Warren, Assistant to the Superintendent and District Ombudsman
  • Eric Williams, Assistant Superintendent for School Leadership - Secondary and CTE

He thanked Dr. Raashad Fitzpatrick, current GCS Assistant to the Superintendent and District Ombudsman, for his service to the District and congratulated him on his new position as Superintendent of Lancaster County School District starting in January.

Action Items

Request from Langston Charter Middle School to Terminate Charter with Greenville County Schools
The Board of Trustees approved the termination of Langston Charter Middle School's charter with Greenville County Schools, effective July 1, 2024, pending its full acceptance to The Charter Institute at Erskine.

Employee Grievance Appeal (Executive Session)
The Board voted to deny the request for a hearing of the employee grievance appeal and affirm the Administration's response to the grievance.

Continuous School Improvement Plan Review
Trustees approved the Continuous Improvement Plans for Grove Elementary, Sue Cleveland Elementary, Berea Middle, Lakeview Middle, Berea High, Carolina High, and Southside High Schools as presented.

Information/Action from Board Committees/Liaisons
SCSBA Legislative Conference – Mrs. Morrison-Fair – The South Carolina School Boards Association hosted its annual legislative conference this past weekend.

Monthly Finance Report
The District's monthly financial statements were presented to the Board of Trustees as an information item.
