News Woodmont High School named 2023 Palmetto’s Finest School Woodmont High School was named a 2023 Palmetto's Finest School, earning one of South Carolina's highest achievements. The announcement was made across the state and broadcast live in the school. The South Carolina Association of School Administrators (SCASA) presents the awards each year to schools that offer the best in innovative, effective educational programs. The selection process includes a comprehensive review of a school's program, focusing on the impact the school is making on the lives of students and the community. “I am honored beyond words by the Palmetto's Finest recognition and know the credit for this accomplishment rests on our student body and faculty for whom I am grateful,” said Joe Foster, principal of Woodmont High School. Surprise announcement video and details Ten outstanding GCS employees recognized in Employee Spotlight Program Ten outstanding GCS employees have been selected for recognition in the Employee Spotlight Program. The Employee Spotlight Program honors staff members who have made significant workplace contributions or accomplishments at Greenville County Schools. Recipients were nominated by fellow GCS employees, who provided information about the employee and his or her work ethic. Each honoree will receive an award and a Cinnamon Roll and Coffee Celebration for the recipient and his or her entire school or department. This program is sponsored by Greenville Federal Credit Union. Superintendent Royster named 4A/5A Superintendent of the Year GCS Superintendent Dr. Burke Royster was named 4A/5A Superintendent of the Year by the South Carolina Athletic Administrators Association this week. This award is given each year to the superintendent who has shown outstanding leadership and support of athletics on both the state and local levels. As a former teacher and coach, Dr. Royster deeply values athletics which he sees as a mechanism for students to learn valuable life skills in line with the District's Graduation Plus initiative. The nomination for this award cites his willingness to go above and beyond for interscholastic athletics. The impact of his leadership can be seen in his coaching, teaching, and serving interscholastic athletes both in Greenville County Schools and across the state of South Carolina throughout his educational career.
