News Magnet Academies Application Window Through noon December 3 The district's magnet academies of accelerated learning offer unique educational choices to the students of Greenville County to meet their individual needs. Applications will be accepted through noon on Tuesday, December 3. Magnet Academies Application information. Kindergarten and First Grade Registration December 3-6, 2019 Children who will be five years old on or before September 1 of the current year must enroll in public or private kindergarten unless the parent or legal guardian signs a waiver (see Kindergarten Non-Attendance Form at the link below). Any child who will be six years old on or before September 1 of the current year must enroll in first grade. Registration information. Change in Assignment Choice Monday, November 18 - Wednesday, December 4 Greenville County Schools is a "choice" district, offering quality schools at all levels across the school system. Approximately 16% of the school system's 76,000 students attend school on choice. Students are assigned to a school (home-based) based on the address where their custodial parent/guardian resides. School assignments are listed by subdivision/multi-family dwelling and home address on the GCS website at https://public.greenville.k12.sc.us/. Parents may request that their children attend another school through Change in Assignment Choice and/or applying to the school system's Magnet Academies. Change in Assignment Choice information. Unofficial Board Meeting Summary November 19, 2019 Welcome, Prayer and Pledge of Allegiance Miracle Worker Award: Robby Bannister, a 4K teacher at Golden Strip Child Development Center, received the Miracle Worker Award for performing CPR on a child who was hit by a car while walking his sister to the bus stop last month. Adoption of Consent Calendar Appearance of Visitors Superintendent's Report: Dr. Royster ceded the time for his Superintendent's Report to Greenville County Schools Teacher of the Year Susan McCoy. She read a letter written by a group of her eighth-grade students who are working to spread a positive Tanglewood message via social media. ACTION ITEMS Comprehensive Annual Financial Report - Approved motion from the Committee of the Whole to accept the FY 2019 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report as presented. This report details the financial operations of the District and includes an independent CPA opinion on the financial statements of the District. Included with the report is the External Auditor's Management Letter and accompanying District response. Information Items Internal Auditing Services' Project Status Report - The report was presented as information. Committee / Liaison Reports - Mr. Meek expects the committee on personnel policies to bring recommendations to whole board soon. Mr. Lewis reported that the Ad Hoc Committee met today and heard a presentation from Public Education Partners regarding their policy recommendations for the upcoming legislative session.
