Three Schools Earn RAMP Designation for School Counseling

Simpsonville Elementary, Wade Hampton High, and Welcome Elementary Schools have earned the Recognized American School Counselor Association (ASCA) Model Program (RAMP) designation for their outstanding school counseling programs.

The RAMP designation, awarded to schools whose counseling programs align with the criteria set in the ASCA National Model, recognizes schools that are committed to delivering a comprehensive, data-driven school counseling program and creating an exemplary educational environment. This year 104 schools from 27 states will receive this designation. They join Woodland Elementary, Bell's Crossing Elementary, Paris Elementary, and Sevier Middle in receiving the prestigious RAMP designation. Read more about RAMP Designation

SC READY and SCPASS Spring 2017 Testing

The South Carolina College- and Career- READY Assessments (SC READY) are statewide assessments in English Language Arts (ELA) and mathematics that are administered to students in grades 3 through 8.

The South Carolina Palmetto Assessment of State Standards (SCPASS) are statewide assessments in science and social studies that are administered to students in grades 4 through 8. These assessments are aligned to state standards and what is taught in your child's classroom. All students in the applicable grades are required to take the SC READY and SCPASS assessments except those who qualify for the South Carolina National Center and State Collaborative (SC-NCSC) and South Carolina Alternative Assessment (SC-ALT) assessments.
Schools will notify parents of their child's testing schedule, which will occur during the April 21-June 2 testing window. Read more about SC READY and SCPASS

TRHS’s Oakley Connor Selected to All-American Fishing Team

TRHS’s Oakley Connor Selected to Bassmaster All-American Fishing TeamTravelers Rest High School Senior Oakley Connor has been selected as one of 12 members of the 2017 Bassmaster High School All-American Fishing Team. The honor was awarded after two different panels of judges reviewed Connor’s achievements in bass fishing, school work, and community service, and determined him to be one of the most outstanding young anglers in America. Dr. Royster showcased the Greenville County Schools electronic flipbook Progress Report that can be accessed here and through the front page of the District website at www.greenville.k12.sc.us.

Action Items

Strategic Education Plan Update - Approved motion from the Committee of the Whole to approve the district's and schools' strategic plans. The updated, electronic plan describes in detail key data outcomes and progress made within each of the five goal areas and the annual performance objectives during the 2015-16 school year, unless data exist for 2016-17. The plan summarizes the most recent progress for each strategy. This is the fourth annual update to the 2014-18 plan.

Revision of Policy IHAB: Reporting Student Progress - Approved motion from the Committee of the Whole to approve the revision of Policy IHAB:  Reporting Student Progress.

Deletion of Policy IHAD: Parent Conferences - Approved motion from the Committee of the Whole to approve the deletion of Policy IHAD: Parent Conferences.

Revision of Policy IDE: Co-curricular/Extra-curricular Activities - Approved motion from the Committee of the Whole to approve the revision of Policy IDE: Co-Curricular/Extra-Curricular Activities.

Deletion of Policy IDEA: Intramural Athletics - Approved motion from the Committee of the Whole to approve the deletion of Policy IDEA: Intramural Athletics.

Duke Energy Carolinas, LLC Permanent Right of Way Easement at Rudolph Gordon Elementary - Approved motion from the Committee of the Whole to approve Duke Energy Carolinas, LLC request for a 20 foot wide permanent electrical power right-of-way easement on the Rudolph G. Gordon Elementary property. This easement will be used to provide new permanent electrical utility services to the school.  With this new ROW easement the ROW easement approved on August 23, 2016 will revert back to the District once new permanent electrical power service is activated.

Review of Financial Internal Controls: Distribution Center - Approved motion from Internal Auditing Services to accept the audit of Review of Financial Internal Controls Distribution Center. The audit was performed to review, evaluate and document the financial internal controls of selected departments at the Distribution Center.

Approval of Legal Representation (Executive Session) - Approved motion to provide legal representation for an employee named in a civil suit as the result of an automobile accident that occurred in the scope of the employee's job duties.
