Donate to Support Students and Local Schools

The Greenville County Schools Foundation needs your support to provide students and employees with programs, support, and services that are above and beyond that which is provided by the education funding system. The Foundation's mission is to "Celebrate Success" in Greenville County Schools through teacher and school grants for innovative programs, student and teacher scholarships, and communication of these success stories to the community.

Greenville County Schools to Receive $60,000 Bosch Grant for Mobile Manufacturing Lab

Greenville County Schools is one of four Upstate educational entities to receive a grant from The Bosch Community Fund. The grants, totaling $147,200, will provide resources for various science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) programs and activities. Greenville County Schools will receive a $60,000 grant for the purchase of a mobile manufacturing lab. The lab will rotate among the district's 20 middle schools. With this lab, more than 16,000 students will have the opportunity to experience advanced manufacturing equipment in a hands-on environment. Read more: http://goo.gl/SC8PlE.

Superintendent's Report - Dr. Royster thanked Mr. Hendry for his comments and expressed appreciation to the United Way and other partners for their efforts to support students. He then introduced the new principals and directors for next school year and summarized the many events beginning this spring through the end of the school year.

Action Items

Long Range Facilities Plan - CIP - Approved substitution motion, made by Mrs. Grayson and seconded by Mr. Lewis, to approve the 2016 Long Range Facilities Plan and Capital Improvement Plan, moving forward to 2020 the completion of an environmental science building at the Roper Mountain Science Center and deferring inclusion of the Fine Arts Center addition until additional information is provided by the Administration to the Board. The 2016 revision also adds seats at Summit Drive Elementary, which was included last year in the LRFP as an additional 250 elementary seats in or around the City of Greenville, an auxiliary gym addition at Greer High, which is the only high school without an auxiliary gym, and funding to address high dollar maintenance items to adequately maintain GCS school facilities.

Lease with Greenville Literacy - Approved motion from the Committee of the Whole to approve a lease agreement renewal with Greenville Literacy for the use of 3,364 square feet at J. Harley Bonds Career Center to provide literacy programs for the community.

Lease with Greenville County Sheriff's Office - Approved motion from the Committee of the Whole to approve a lease agreement renewal with Greenville County Sheriff's Office for the old Northwest Area Office to provide law enforcement services to the surrounding community.

Disposition of Non-Contiguous Property at J.L. Mann High - Approved motion from the Committee of the Whole to approve the surplus of +/-1.36 acres of property across from J.L. Mann High School. The District acquired 0.49 acres of this property with the purchase of the J. L. Mann High School site in 2003. The additional 0.87 acres was obtained through a recently completed land swap with the City of Greenville. The Administration believes that it is in the best interest of the District to surplus this property so that it may be sold.
