News Register for Kindergarten and First Grade for Next School Year Registration for kindergarten and first grade for the 2016-17 school year in Greenville County Schools will be held Monday - Thursday, January 11-14, 2016. Children who will be five years old on or before September 1, 2016, must enroll in public or private kindergarten, unless the parent or legal guardian signs a waiver. Any child who will be six years old on or before September 1, 2016, must enroll in first grade, unless the parent or legal guardian signs a waiver. Visit your Greenville County public school on January 11-14 to register. For your child's school assignment and other information, visit the kindergarten registration section of the GCS website or call INFOLine at 355-3100. Chuck Saylors, Kenneth Baxter Elected to SCSBA Leadership Positions Chuck Saylors, Greenville County Schools Board Trustee, was elected secretary of the South Carolina School Boards Association (SCSBA) during the association's annual Delegate Assembly. Board Trustee Kenneth Baxter was elected the Region 15 Director of the SCSBA. Read more about SCSBA Leadership Positions. GCS Educators Earn National Board Certification Three GCS educators recently earned 2016 National Board Certification and 28 met certificate renewal requirements. The new NBC teachers are Robert Henderson, Eastside High; Rachel Patterson, J. L. Mann High Academy; and Judy Perecko, Oakview Elementary. With 683 teachers who have achieved National Board Certification, Greenville County Schools ranks 13th in the nation of more than 14,000 school districts for the total number of NBC teachers. GCS also has more NBCTs than 25 states. South Carolina ranks third in the nation with 8,863 NBC teachers, behind North Carolina and Florida. Recognition of Guests - Recognized representatives from Teacher Forum and a former student of Mrs. Rohleder who is now a teacher with GCS. Election of Officers - Adoption of Consent Calendar - Approved.
Appearance of Visitors - None. Superintendent's Report - Dr. Royster congratulated the Board officers and Mr. Saylors and Mr. Baxter for their election to leadership roles with the South Carolina School Boards Association. He then highlighted the district's efforts to recognize employee groups during American Education by showing five videos, with each featuring a student sharing how an employee made a difference in his or her life. Action Items Greer Middle College Charter Lease Agreement - Approved motion from the Committee of the Whole to approve the lease agreement renewal with Greer Middle College Charter School. The school currently leases classroom portables from the District, which are set up on the Greenville Tech Campus in Greer.
