News Magnet Academy Applications Accepted Now Applications are currently being accepted for Greenville County Schools' eleven magnet academies. Each magnet academy provides students opportunities to explore a special interest, gift, talent or skill. The magnet academies attract top students and talented teachers who bring innovative ideas to the classroom. Read more: Read more about Magnet Academy Applications. School Choice - Change in Assignment Choice Lottery Window Opens December 7 A Change in Assignment Choice Lottery Window will be available from Monday, December 7 through Friday, December 18, 2015. During this time, parents can submit a choice form for up to three schools. Since order of receipt of form does not impact assignment, parents will not be allowed to line up at schools. Baxter, Sr., Joy Grayson, Derek Lewis, Roger Meek, Glenda Morrison-Fair, Danna Rohleder, Pat Sudduth. Absent (2): Lynda Leventis-Wells and Chuck Saylors. Recognition of Visitors - The School Board recognized students from Furman University, Anderson University and USC-Upstate. Welcome, Prayer and Pledge of Allegiance - Mrs. Rohleder. Adoption of Consent Calendar - Approved.
Appearance of Visitors - None Superintendent's Report - Dr. Royster noted this month's report would be presented by Mrs. Shiree Turner-Fowler, 2015-16 GCS Teacher of the Year, as part of the American Education Week observance. Mrs. Turner-Fowler, a kindergarten teacher at Hollis Elementary Academy, noted various people who had influenced her life and stressed the importance of everyone striving to be the best they can be in whatever they choose to pursue. She thanked GCS teachers for their influence on her career and School Board members for their service and leadership. Action Items Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) - Approved motion from the Committee of the Whole to accept the FY 2015 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report as presented. The report details the financial operations of the district and includes an independent CPA opinion on the financial statements. The school district received an unmodified opinion, the highest opinion it can receive. It was also noted the Finance Department has received Awards for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government of Finance Officers Association for 29 consecutive years and the Association of School Business Officials for 20 consecutive years. Architect Selection for Addition at Sara Collins Elementary School (Executive Session) - Approved motion from the Committee of the Whole to approve Firm B, Craig Gaulden Davis Architects, to provide architectural services for the addition at Sara Collins Elementary School. Information Items Internal Auditing Services' Project Status Report - The report was presented as information. Information / Action From Board Committees / Liaisons Instructional Policies - Dr. O'Connor thanked Board members and staff for their work in reviewing instructional policies. Finance Report - The report was presented as information. Executive Director of Finance Jeff Knotts noted the BEST Capital Projects Budget had been closed out and any expenses such as BEST Board expenses and fees associated with BEST bond payments would be included in the Capital Projects Budget. He also noted the monthly report on property tax revenues includes areas in Laurens and Spartanburg counties that are part of the school district. The meeting adjourned at 7:24 p.m. |
