ACCESS Testing at Riverside Middle School

ACCESS Testing is an annual English language proficiency assessment given to students identified as English language learners (ELLs), measuring their abilities in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. These four tests track their progress in acquiring English and inform instructional decisions made by teachers.

Riverside Middle School will be administering these tests to identified ELL students on the following dates:

Tuesday, Jan 21 - Listening Test (All identified students)

Thursday, Jan 23 - Reading Test (All identified students)

Tuesday, Jan 28 - Writing Test (All identified students)

Thursday, Jan 30 through Thursday, Feb 5 - Speaking Test (in small groups; students will be informed a week ahead of time as to their exact test date)

**Make-Up testing will occur as needed on Jan 22, 24, 27, 29, 31 or Feb 6.

We will begin each morning at about 8:35am. If your child is part of the ELL program, please be sure they arrive at school on time and in their best testing mode (good night's sleep, nutritious breakfast, stress-free morning, charged Chromebook, pencils, paper, etc).

8th GRADE IGP Conferences

Beginning January 7th, RMS counselors will be meeting with all 8th grade students and parents to conduct their Individual Graduation Plan (IGP) conferences. An IGP is a flexible plan that students, parents/guardians, and school counselors create to help students focus on interests, abilities, and academic and career goals.

Counselors will be providing an overview of information with students in classes on December 11th and then inviting parents to join us by phone for our student-led conferences in January and February. Registration for 9th grade courses will take place in March. Please sign up for your phone conference through the appropriate link below.

Update! 7th Grade Whitewater Field Trip

Update as of 10/2024: We will now be going to the Whitewater Center in Charlotte, NC for our 7th grade field trip. The field trip will be May 9th, 2025.
