Retiring or Retired Teachers and Substitutes - Signed by Governor Henry McMaster on April 4, 2018, Act 145 of 2018 established the Retired Educator certificate which allows retired educators to be eligible to maintain certification for the purpose of substituting.
The South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) is in the process of developing guidelines and procedures for the implementation of this statute. Once the guidelines are approved by the State Board of Education, the SCDE Office of Educator Services will be able to issue the Retired Educator certificate to eligible individuals. Information regarding procedures to request the Retired Educator certificate will be available on the SCDE website at a later date.
The Retired Educator certificate allows eligible retirees to maintain certification for the purpose of substituting and is not related to the retirement earnings limitation exemption for retired teachers seeking to return to teaching in a critical needs subject or geographic area.

ENERGY MANAGEMENT TIPS AND REMINDERS
Energy Saving Tip - Utilize the sun! On a sunny day, open your blinds and let the sun light your classroom or office instead of using ceiling fixtures.
Reminder - District Policy in Reference to Laminators - Laminators should NOT be left on while not in use or while unattended. Laminators should be turned off when they are finished being used and at the end of the day. Contact your energy manager for best practices recommendations from laminator manufacturers.
Fun Fact - Doing our part for Arbor Day! In one school year, Greenville County Schools reduces its carbon output by the same amount of carbon sequestered by 2969 acres of forests. That’s about the size of 2250 football fields.

HEALTH AND WELLNESSS
Many people spring clean their homes, but what about what they eat? Here are some ideas to try if you’d like to eat a little better than what you are right now. Give each a week and see what happens.
Eat less processed foods. Swap out that afternoon bag of chips with a piece of fresh fruit.
Read nutrition labels. Figure out what a serving size looks like, how many calories it has, and the nutrient numbers for any prepackaged foods you eat.
Eat breakfast every day. The morning rush often means people skip breaking the food fast from the night before. Fast forward a few hours, and people end up eating more than they should of foods that they shouldn’t. Have a breakfast with a balance of proteins, healthful fats, and carbohydrates.
Get plenty of water. Don’t forget to drink enough water throughout the day. Many people confuse dehydration and hunger. Not getting enough water can also lead to tiredness and headaches.
