Volunteers Needed for Summer Camps - Greenville Technical College’s summer camp initiative, Adventure Tech is looking for paid volunteers to help with STEM/manufacturing camps at the Center for Manufacturing Innovation (CMI) campus. The camps begin in June and run through July. Each camp runs 2 days, Monday and Tuesday, from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Help is needed with early check in, and during the day to assist the GTC instructors in the classroom. Anyone who is interested is welcome to give input on the training program for these instructors to help them connect with middle school students ages 11-14. Paid volunteers can work as little as or much as they wish, and will be paid the lab instructor rate. Here are the camp descriptions:
3D Printing and Design—(June 11-12 & July 9-10) - Campers will use computer aided design to bring concepts to life while learning about additive manufacturing. They will design, print and assemble their projects, and see a variety of 3D printers to execute their designs. Students come home with their projects.
Computer Controlled Machining—(June 18-19) - Bring math to life! Design with precise calculations and program machines to cut metal. Students will safely experience industry-grade equipment like those that assemble high-end cars and instruments.
Automation & Robotics—(June 25-26 & July 23-24) - Learn the basics of robots and their growing role in Greenville County. Campers will electronically control and troubleshoot robots as well as work on safe and simply electronic projects that they can take home. Boy and Girl Scouts are welcome to earn their merit badges through 2 fun days at the CMI campus.
Virtual and Robotic Welding—(July 16-17) - Program a robotic welder! Students will use the safe virtual welder to learn real welding techniques without the need for protection. Students are given real-time feedback to teach them the basics of different types of welding. Fun and safe for middle schoolers regardless of gender.
Data supports the benefits of exposing this age group to career pathways. Our local industries are desperate for skilled workers, The vision in developing Adventure Tech is to build such pathways for the six major career clusters in Greenville County. Additional programming will be added each year.
In addition to these STEM/manufacturing camps, Culinary camps are also offered this summer at the Northwest campus. Click here for more information.

ENERGY MANAGEMENT TIPS AND REMINDERS
Energy Saving Tip - Set computers to go into hibernation mode to save energy when they are not in use.
Reminder - Remember to shut down all classrooms and offices completely before leaving for spring break. (All lights turned off at the switch, all computer/technology equipment shut down, unplug all plug loads that utilize easily accessible outlets).
Fun Fact - According to legend there are 1,000 one-ounce gold pieces in a leprechaun’s pot of gold. In today’s market that pot would be worth approximately $1.3 million, only 21.67% of Greenville County Schools’ annual energy savings.

HEALTH AND WELLNESSS
Set a reminder to move every 20 to 30 minutes. Use your cell phone or watch to set an alarm. That will be your signal to get up and walk around the house or office, or fold a load of laundry, or take out the trash. It doesn't matter what you do, really, only that you change position and use the major limbs in a different way.
Make food and drink work for, not against, sleep. Sometimes it seems like there is a coffee shop on every corner. Caffeine has even been injected into bottled water. Moderation is the key, and most doctors recommend eliminating caffeinated drinks after lunch, assuming you turn in around 10 p.m. Java in the morning is OK. Have coffee in the evening and you may be in for a long night of counting sheep.
