HEALTH AND WELLNESSS
Get enough sleep. Sleep has the ability to optimize mental and physical energy, and optimal levels of sleep (about eight hours a night) are linked with reduced risk of chronic disease and improved longevity as well as improved memory, sharper attention, and lower stress.
Engage in resistance exercise. Resistance exercise helps maintain muscle mass and strengthens the body. This has particular relevance as we age, as it reduces the risk of disability and falls. Types of resistance exercises include 1) using your body weight to force your muscles to contract such as pull-ups, push-ups, and squats; 2) using free weights such as dumbbells, barbells and kettlebells; and 3) using weight machines as a safer alternative for those who are new to resistance training.
