Fund to Support Students in School Districts Devastated by Floods - The South Carolina School Boards Association and South Carolina Future Minds are establishing a fund to collect monetary donations for students in school districts in the 16 SC counties declared as disaster areas. The monies, which will be divided among the school districts, will be used for school-related supplies and programs targeting affected students and could include purchasing school supplies, assisting with after school programs, or providing a program offering food in backpacks to take home, etc. The fund was prompted by calls from other school districts whose schools wanted a way to assist their fellow schools. To donate, visit http://www.scfutureminds.org/flood-relief/ or text “SCSchools” to 71777. In addition to donating to the flood relief for schools fund, visitors to the webpage will also have the option of contributing to all other school districts. Audience: Employees. HEALTHY LIVING TIPS

Pick bright colored foods.
Fruits and vegetables with bright colors are usually high in anti-oxidants. Anti-oxidants are good for your health because they remove free radicals in our body that damage our cells. So get your fill of fruits/vegetables of different colors: White (Bananas, Mushroom), Yellow (Pineapples, Mango), Orange (Orange, Papaya), Red (Apple, Strawberries, Tomatoes, Watermelon), Green (Guava, Avocados, Cucumber, Lettuce, Celery), and Purple/Blue (Blackberries, Eggplant, Prunes).

Cut down on processed food. Processed foods are not good because most nutritional value is lost and the preservatives added are bad for our health. Many processed foods contain a high amount of salt content, which leads to higher blood pressure and heart disease. Processed foods are anything that are not in their raw form. In general, most of the food in supermarkets are processed – the more the ingredients on the label (especially the ones ending with ‘ite’ or ‘ate’), the more processed they are. Watch out for those with salt/sugar as the first five ingredients and select natural foods as much as possible.
