Monday, November 9, 2009 - Montague just
landed in this African country. Both English and French are the official
languages, but because there are so many different ethnic groups and languages
here, it makes it one of Africa’s most culturally diverse countries. Check
out the picture of the wooden dance mask which expresses the vibrant culture of
the Mambila people.
Tuesday, November 10, 2009 - Montague is
having a great time dancing with the people in this country. It is a
powerhouse when it comes to music. The music is called makossa and it is a danceable, modern music. He just met a
popular musician, Manu Dibango, who began his work in music in this country.
Wednesday, November 11, 2009 - Where do you
suppose Montague could be to view this impressive waterfall which is the largest
in this country with an 80 meter drop?
Thursday, November 12, 2009 - Montague can be
found in Central Africa. Three places that border this country are
Nigeria, Chad, and Gabon. There are 3 main rivers that run through this
country. The chief of the Bamileke people
lives in one of the most impressive buildings in this country.
Friday, November 13, 2009 - Montague has found out some interesting history
about this country. As you know, the President of the United States is elected
for a 4 year term and the longest he/she can serve is 8 years if he/she is
reelected. Well, the first President of this country served 22 years. His name
is Ahmadou Ahidjo. He established unity and stability in the country. He
resigned in 1982 and at that time, you turned over the power to the Prime
Minister. His name is Paul Biya. He is still in power despite the widespread
corruption and a great deal of economic hardship (the collapse of the oil market
in the 1980’s).
